Scotland Civil WarsCivil wars are uncommon in the Scottish History. Scots were often at war with the King of England and didn't experience major internal fights. The first civil war in Scotland was the War of the Scottish succession, which started in 1094 and lasted 3 years. One hundred years later started the revolts of the Mac Williams and the Macheths. Both families lived the difficult experience of apparently unfair successions. Then came the Wars of Independence. The first war started in 1296 and the second ended in 1357 with the treaty of Berwick. Even 1357 was not the end of troubles I appears the this Treaty and the Black Death stopped to fights. Then came Mary Queen of Scots. This Civil War was a mix of England / Scotland rivalty mixed with a fight between protestants and Catholics for supremacy over the British Isles. Moreover Mary claimed to be the true heir to the English throne. The strange period of time lasted almost 30 years and ended in 1587 with trial and execution of Mary. During the Wars in the Three Kingdoms a Scottish Civil War opposed Scottish Royalists and the Covenanters. The internal war was short and lasted 1 yeay (1644 - 1645). The victory of the Covenanters brought the fights to an end.
Forty years later the Jacobite Rebellions also involved the Scots. But this was more a British Isles Civil war or even the first European war since Spain and France were also involved. These rebellions lasted from 1688 to 1746.
